A very versatile instrument like the piano, students can learn chords and play melodies with the guitar. We have students as young as seven and as old as 60 learning to rock it out!
Finger playability, size, sounds and amps, and the type of music generated are key differences between acoustic and electric guitars. It all comes down to what you want to learn and play. We can guide you on choosing the right guitar and equipment when you contact us.
While the bass is similarly designed to the guitar, it only has four strings and sounds in the lower registers. In many cases, the bass acts as a supporting instrument, laying the song’s foundation and allowing the guitar to play off it. Understanding bass can be crucial to developing your skills as a guitarist. Thankfully, we offer bass lessons if needed!
Yes, it can! The similarities between the two instruments mean you can easily play both once you understand the musical dynamics and differences (the ukulele has four strings to the guitar’s six). In many cases, the ukulele is a great stepping stone to guitar. We can offer you ukulele lessons to expand your repertoire.
Aileen has been playing, teaching and performing guitar for over 30 years. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Calgary and had the privilege of playing in master classes with several internationally known guitarists (including Oscar Ghiglia, Benjamin Verdery, Sharon Isbin and Scott Tennant and studied under Jacob Salomons). Further study took Aileen across Canada and to Germany for festivals and competitions and then private study with Lily Afshar in Memphis. During this time, Aileen volunteered as Artistic Director of the Classical Guitar Society and presented a singer-songwriter series that included an amazing group of artists from both our East and West coasts (including Matt Andersen, Jill Barber, Rose Cousins, , Catherine MacLellan, and Erin Costello).
Now Aileen divides her time performing at weddings and corporate events and teaching.
Aileen is excited to introduce first time students to the guitar and is equally enthusiastic to teach students already set on their musical journey. She believes that a strong technical foundation allows students to explore any style of music.
Aileen would love to share her years for musical knowledge while encouraging self-discipline, creative expression and the freedom to explore and have fun with their imagination.
